Higher Education Consortium (HEC) Upward Bound

Gateway STEM high school has been a target school for HEC Upward Bound for years! HEC Upward has worked along side students, principals, counselors and teacher to ensure that the students are prepared for graduation.

This summer we had five Gateway Students who attended our Summer Academy.

Gateway always sends us students who have goals and they make sure that they are going to reach their goals. Gateway students hold their standards high and always develop a plan to get to their goal AND show off their leadership skills.

Because of Keith's academic work, he has been working with the group that is older than him. He is now a senior and will be graduating in May, 2018.

Vashon is one out of three targets schools that HEC Upward Bound services. HEC Upward Bound and Vashon have a long running relationship. This year Vashon gave HEC Upward Bound three young men from the freshmen wing.

We are very grateful for the relationship with Vashon.

HEC UB loves to support Vashon in every aspect.Our goal is not only to recruit students, but partner with staff and assist in anyway possible. HEC UB has facilitated FAFSA nights, attended staff meetings,attended basketball games, attended Decision Days and has given multiples presentations at Vashon.

HEC Upward Bound takes a group of young men to the Men of Excellence Conference every year. All three Vashon students were accepted and attended the conference!

HEC UB has seen the most growth from Vashon students. The Vashon students learned and gained many skills.
We are very proud of our Vashon students.

Ms. Nolan developed a group where HEC UB students can take the extra step in leadership become the leaders of the leaders. Anthony & Demetrius received the opportunity to be part of the Peer Leader Group during the Summer Academy of 2017.
